Welcome to STAMPIJ.
We are a jazz dance club focusing on jazz (related) dances like Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz and Slow Jazz/Blues!
We offer weekly classes, social dances and practice sessions in Amsterdam (Noord). We would love to see you there!
We offer solo and partnered dance classes rooted in the rich Black American jazz and blues traditions—social dances full of rhythm, joy, expression, and connection. You can find more info about swing and blues dances in general here.
Join our weekly classes in swing (Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz) and Slow Jazz/Blues dancing. Whether you’re stepping onto the floor for the first time or have been grooving for years, there’s something here for you.
At Stampij, we focus on enjoying yourself through dance, exploring and finding inspiration, and developing your own personal style. We aim to give you as much personal attention as possible in our classes. Our team consists of experienced dancers with both national and international backgrounds in teaching at various levels.
For students and participants that sign up for more than one class we offer discounts. You can find more about pricing here.
Lindy Hop is a partnered swing dance that grew out of Black communities in Harlem, New York in the early 20th century. It’s playful, expressive, improvisational and always connected to the music.Â
Lindy Hop is danced mostly to jazz and rhythm & blues music. Although it is a partner dance, solo jazz elements are a big part of the dance.
Solo Jazz, also known as Vernacular or Authentic Jazz, is a Black American dance style where individuals improvise steps without a partner. It includes everything from the Charleston to the Cakewalk, Mambo to House.
Though danced solo, it often is a social experience. Dancers connect through shared moves, routines, and jams.
Slow Jazz/Blues is a family of Black American dances danced to jazz or blues music, characterized by improvisation, groundedness, and a strong connection between music and movement.
It’s known for its soulful and expressive movements, often incorporating gentle turns, glides, and dips.
At Stampij, we use the terms lead and follow, but not in the old-fashioned, gendered way. Anyone can dance either role, and both are essential, expressive, and full of creativity.
A lead doesn’t control the dance, and a follow isn’t passive. We see dancing as a conversation, where both partners bring ideas, respond, and inspire each other.
We encourage everyone to try both roles, switch them up, and discover what feels good for you.
Jazz is all about individuality and so is how you choose to move.
See our schedule for weekly socials and open practice sessions!
At the moment we don’t have any special events or workshops planned.
Our team is available to be part of, or leading dance performances, open classes, and on-screen performances. Are you looking for ideas or want to share ideas you want us to participate in? We are always open to working together on new projects.Â
Please send us an email and describe your idea, budget and other relevant information.
